The Amateur Traveler talks to Stefanie Michaels (better known as @AdventureGirl) about a recent trip to the Marquesas Islands which are near Tahiti (or part of Tahiti depending on who you ask).
Stefanie sailed on the freighter Aranui from Tahiti out to these remote islands. She encountered a warm people living in a tropical paradise… with very nice cars and nowhere to drive.

One tiny quibble with the interview though: they’re not the most-remote inhabited islands. That would be Easter Island!

So glad to hear a podcast about the lovely Marquesas! Just another correction, there are places to stay on every one of the islands if you fly there (flights are 7 days a week) – some are a little rustic but all are family-run and incredibly friendly. Also most French Polynesians wouldn’t want to consider thier country as a part of France – we are actually the only official French “overseas country” as opposed to a territory.
